How exciting. Today we signed off on the "ozalids" for the printing of Great Golf Down Under 2, a follow up to the (now) sold out original edition. I have been running around the countryside taking lots of images of some pretty amazing courses and this has now all been put together into GGDU2 which is due for release in October this year.

The new book is going to be great. I have added another 47 new courses (making is 122 in total), included ALL the major golf regions in Australia and New Zealand and expanded the book to 304 pages (from 224) and over 400 images. Wow!
This part of the proofing process is quite interesting. The printer in China is sent the digital file as a high res PDF with all the images embedded and from this they send back the "ozalids" which is basically the book printed on a low quality printer and then assembled into sections of 16 pages each. It is a number of these sections (19 in fact) which are then bound and form the book itself. Really quite interesting and something I have never really thought about.

At this point in the proofing process we check that all page numbering is still there, captions have not fallen off and that the book is assembled in the correct order (sounds funny but I know a couple of books where pages have been put in wrong places). Once we give the signoff for this the book is then printed, bound and shipped back to us.

You will notice in the image above two sets of documents. The book images themselves are down the bottom and the boxes in pink above represent the spot varnishing which is done over every image. This helps to really bring the color out in the end product and create a really nice look and feel to the book.
Be on the lookout for GGDU2 from the start of October. We will be taking advance purchase orders soon so make sure you do not miss out. You can order online at http://www.greatgolfdownunder.com.au
